I made this invitation over on Facebook, but in case you aren't on Facebook, here is the info again.

We REALLY need to have an RSVP by next week!

It's back!

We're having our third annual Monster Bash!

It will be held at the Ivy Springs Clubhouse on Monday, October 24th at 11:30 p.m.

Hosted by Summer, Sarah, and Stacy.

Come prepared for games, food, and fun!

Please have your boys and ghouls come dressed in their costumes.

We are going to have a potluck, so please bring your favorite Halloween themed dish to share. Please post whether you are bringing sweet or savory so that we can have a good balance of both since it will be lunch time!

We need an RSVP by Wednesday, October 19th, so that we can plan accordingly for games, goodie bags, and activities.

It's going to be spooktacular!

Who's up for it?

Hello my dear friends! It's been so long since we last met together. I've missed our discussions and fun reads! I'm wondering how many of you are interested in doing book club this fall?? I'm due to have my baby any day now so I'm not going to be much of an orchestrator this next while. Is anyone wanting to take over and head things up for the next couple of months?? Thanks!

June book club

I'm hosting June, but we'll have a daytime playgroup style meeting. Does anyone have any preference on what day of the week we meet? I'll either host at my house or Katy said she can reserve the clubhouse - probably weather dependent?

Here's the book and synopsis:
The Silence of God by Gale Sears

From socialism to forced atheism, almost overnight -- Based on the inspiring true story of the only LDS family in 1917 revolutionary Russia.

The Silence of God follows Johan and Alma Lindlof and their eight children as they witness the glitz and glamour of Imperial Russia quickly dissolve into mass rebellion. The chaos ultimately divided their family and tested their faith, as some of the Lindlof children were sent to Siberian work camps.

As they face an uncertain future of danger and despair under the Bolshevik regime, life for the wealthy Lindlof family is changed forever by an idealogy that forces equality and demands the silence of God.

This well-researched novel by author Gale Sears – a powerful new voice in LDS historical fiction – offers a rare glimpse into a fascinating period of history, including the rise of socialism and the origins of the LDS Church in Russia.

As the only LDS family living in Russia at the time, the Lindlofs witnessed Elder Francis M. Lyman of the LDS Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicate the land for the preaching of the gospel on Aug. 6, 1903. His scribe was the only other person there. Now, on Aug. 29, 2010, the Kyiv Ukraine Temple will be dedicated, the first temple in a former Soviet bloc country – just a few miles from the very spot where LDS was first introduced in Russia.

Hey everyone, I've got an extra copy of the book for this month if anyone needs it. Our internet is not working at home, so if you want to get it, feel free to swing on by and get it! During the week, I'm home during the day all day, everyday! I'll be home this afternoon, but gone all day tomorrow.

May Book!!!!!

I have decided to pick "The Heretic's Daughter" by Kathleen Kent as our May book. I couldn't place a book club hold on it since there were no copies checked in, so you are advised to place your own hold. There are two publishing years (2008/2009). I think that there are NO holds on the 2009 version, so get that one if you want to get it quick. The book is a little over 300 pages, so hurry!

Amazon's Synopsis: A family's conflict becomes a battle for life and death in this gripping and original first novel based on family history from a descendant of a condemned Salem witch. After a bout of smallpox, 10-year-old Sarah Carrier resumes life with her mother on their family farm in Andover, Mass., dimly aware of a festering dispute between her mother, Martha, and her uncle about the plot of land where they live. The fight takes on a terrifying dimension when reports of supernatural activity in nearby Salem give way to mass hysteria, and Sarah's uncle is the first person to point the finger at Martha. Soon, neighbors struggling to eke out a living and a former indentured servant step forward to name Martha as the source of their woes. Sarah is forced to shoulder an even heavier burden as her mother and brothers are taken to prison to face a jury of young women who claim to have felt their bewitching presence. Sarah's front-row view of the trials and the mayhem that sweeps the close-knit community provides a fresh, bracing and unconventional take on a much-covered episode.

.:Tonite:.

Just a reminder that book club is at my house, TONITE, at 7:30 p.m.

Can't wait to hear what you all thought of Princess!

.:April Book Club:.

Alrighty, I'm just going to stick with this Thursday, April 28th at 7:30 p.m.

I'm sorry for those who will be out of town, or going to the RS activity, or otherwise. It is just too difficult to accommodate everything!

Hope to see everyone - come even if you haven't read! I'll have treats. :)

.:Take Two:.

Thanks Camilla, for reminding me about the Stake Women's activity on May5th.

I definitely want to go to that, so we won't have book club that nite.

If we want to keep it on a regular Thursday nite, then I'll do it this coming Thursday, April 28th.

Seems like that will probably be easiest. Any major conflicts with that nite?

Sorry, I know that is coming up quick and we may not have all been able to read the book.

Still come, though, either way!

.:April Book Club:.

I hope everyone is enjoying reading Princess!

I'm thinking of doing book club the first week in May, which would be May 5th.

I figure this will give people extra time to read the book since we got started a week late!

I haven't decided if we'll do it at 7:00 or 7:30 yet, but I'll keep you posted.

May Book Club preview

I haven't actually read either one of these books yet, but they come to me highly recommended. Anyone have a preference?

Choice #1
A Proper Pursuit by Lynn Austin
Synopsis from Amazon: Christy award-winning historical novelist Austin delivers her strongest offering yet, a coming-of-age story set in late-19th-century Illinois. The great strength of this novel comes from the first-person narrator's charming voice: 20-year-old Violet Hayes is distressed to learn that her father is remarrying-and that her mother, whom Violet believed lay recovering from a mysterious illness in a sanitarium somewhere, had in fact simply abandoned her family and filed for divorce. To escape a stepmother-to-be she can't stand, Violet heads to Chicago to stay with her grandmother and great-aunts. Although she's recently graduated from a genteel school for young ladies, it's in Chicago that Violet's real education begins. One great-aunt tries to persuade her to join the suffrage movement, while another introduces Violet to elite society and urges her to catch a wealthy husband. Her grandmother, who takes her cues from Jane Addams, introduces Violet to the world of revivalist Christianity and inner-city good works, prompting Violet to re-examine her own faith. Two questions drive the plot: will Violet find her mother, and will she encounter true love? Readers will enjoy accompanying Violet as she discovers the answers, her calling and her adult self.

Choice #2
The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin
Synopsis by Amazon: Rubin is not an unhappy woman: she has a loving husband, two great kids and a writing career in New York City. Still, she could-and, arguably, should-be happier. Thus, her methodical (and bizarre) happiness project: spend one year achieving careful, measurable goals in different areas of life (marriage, work, parenting, self-fulfillment) and build on them cumulatively, using concrete steps (such as, in January, going to bed earlier, exercising better, getting organized, and "acting more energetic"). By December, she's striving bemusedly to keep increasing happiness in every aspect of her life. The outcome is good, not perfect (in accordance with one of her "Secrets of Adulthood": "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good"), but Rubin's funny, perceptive account is both inspirational and forgiving, and sprinkled with just enough wise tips, concrete advice and timely research (including all those other recent books on happiness) to qualify as self-help. Defying self-help expectations, however, Rubin writes with keen senses of self and narrative, balancing the personal and the universal with a light touch. Rubin's project makes curiously compulsive reading, which is enough to make any reader happy.

.:April Book Club:.

Alrighty, two people cast their vote, so it looks like we will be reading:

By: Jean Sasson

Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia

It is a really interesting book, and there are two subsequent books as well, so hopefully you'll like it enough to keep reading!

Since I totally dropped the ball and am getting this info out late, do we want to meet the last week of April, or the first week of May?

Let me know your thoughts, it really doesn't matter to me!

Book Club Info.

Hey Girls!
Just looking over the yearly schedule and wanted to let ya know that June and August are up for grabs. If anyone has a book you've been wanting to share, you're welcome to do another month. No pressure though. I know the summer can get pretty busy. Camilla is up for May...does that still work Camilla? What are we reading? =) Thanks for all the ones who have gone already. It's been a fun year of reading so far!

Book Club Update

Hey Ladies,
I haven't heard any opinions either way for book club so lets just plan on March 31 at 7:30 pm. Hopefully that gives everyone enough time to get the book. I have one copy I am happy to loan out if anyone needs it. Let me know!

March Book Club

Hey Ladies!
The book for March is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It is a set in Europe after World War 2 but is not really a "war" book.

Since I have only been a few times I am not sure when is the best time to have it. I was thinking we could do Thursday, March 31st since we are already into March. What do you guys think? It is a pretty short book. I didn't put any on hold with the County Library system because I don't have a county Library card but maybe Katy can do that. I will also try to get a few books from the Murray library and let you know if I have them.

Craft club

I didn't hear back from anyone but Camilla and Sarah N. So, I was wondering who is still interested in doing a craft club this year in March, June, September, and December?

March - Stacy
June -
September - Sarah N.
December -

There are still 2 months that we need someone to take. So please let me know if you are or aren't interested in doing craft club this year! I need to know ASAP for March, and if you are would rather do a ST. Patrick's Day craft, or one for Easter? If we don't have enough people that want to do it this year, we may just stop it all together. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Stacy

Play date it is!

Dear Friends,
How about Monday, Feb.28th, 11am at the clubhouse? Let me know if this works, cause my schedule is pretty open on most days. =) I was thinking that if each child brought one toy to share, then all the kids could have something to play with while we visit? I'm excited to hear what ya'll thought about the book. Now that I'm re-reading it, I remember how in depth it is...it really takes about 200 pages to get into the good parts of the story. Hope you are enjoying it.

Vote!

Hey Gals!
As I mentioned earlier, I will be out of town the last Thursday of the month, so I am wondering what would work best for book club this month. I am considering doing a a little play date at the clubhouse during the day and visiting while the kids play??? Either that or I can try for Tuesday the 22nd, or Tuesday March 1st at my house in the evening. Let me know what would work best for you! Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!

Craft club

Hey Ladies,

I know we talked about cutting back on craft club this year, and I think it was decided that we would do every 3 months.

March or April
June
September
December

Please let me know if you are interested in doing this, and if these months are okay. I know March is soon upon us, so if we want to push it to April, we could do that too. I am fine with being in charge for March/April, unless someone else really wants it... Let me know if you would be willing to take one of the months, and as soon as I who is in, I can post a list. Sorry for the delay on this !!!

Thanks.

February Book!

My Fellow Readers!
I have decided what book we will be reading for February...I have gone back and forth about this one because I don't know how many of you like fantasy books...and it's kinda lengthy...but anyway, it's called "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. It is one of my all time favorite books! It is different than anything we've read thus far, but so entertaining...give it 100 pages to really get the story going. I have placed 6 copies on hold at the library and they should be available by next week. That way you can have a head start on reading it. Enjoy!
